Hocking College Cannabis Analytical Lab Certificate of Operation

Hocking College Cannabis Analytical Lab Receives It’s Operational License!

Hocking College Cannabis Analytical Lab has just received their operational license to test cannabis in Ohio! They are the second lab to receive their license, behind North Coast Testing Labs, LLC out of Streetsboro, Ohio. However, due to some equipment back-orders and additional calibration, North Coast won’t be testing any product for patients for another month or so. This leaves Hocking College as the only fully approved and operational testing facility in Ohio ready & capable to test the first batches of the already harvested, Ohio Medical Cannabis!

Here is Hocking College’s official press release:

Nelsonville, OH – Jan. 9, 2019Hocking College has officially become one of the first medical cannabis testing labs in the state of Ohio after receiving a certificate of operation on January 8.

“Fulfilling the Ohio legislative mandate, Hocking College’s testing lab will promote public safety by providing necessary analytical services that ensure informed access to safe medicinal products to the patients of Ohio,” said Dr. Betty Young, President of Hocking College.

Testing labs serve a vital purpose within the medical cannabis supply chain, determining potencies and examining samples for harmful contaminates.

In Ohio, and across the country, the regulated cannabis market is expected to grow exponentially over the next four years, with some projections indicating the market size to grow to $80 billion in 2022. With this growth, all legal and regulated state frameworks will mandate third-party testing laboratories, and job opportunities will increase accordingly.

Hocking Colleges medical cannabis testing lab is a key component of the College’s new laboratory sciences program which includes the nation’s only medical cannabis laboratory technician degree. Students in this program will have the opportunity to learn analytical chemistry in state-of-the-art instruments similar to that found in commercial cannabis testing labs.

The lab, located in Nelsonville, Ohio, is protected by two separate security systems. High definition cameras monitor both the interior and exterior of the facility 24-7. In the event of a power outage, a backup generator will run all the security systems in case of a power outage.

Police surveillance will include frequent patrols by the Hocking College Police Department.
