Mini SOG

Ok, so wanted to document my experiment grow. I am trying to test out and accomplish a few things.  I have a strain I really want to try that is going outdoors but since I'm an indoor grower and this is my first outdoor I want to hedge my bets to ensure I can get some of this strain without starting over. I worry about Ohio and the mold everyone talks about outdoors. I have also never cut clones(although I have done my research) So I reached out to Ohio Cannabis consultation to come by and give a hands on 1:1 consultation during my first cloning. FYI, Larry from ohiocannabisconsultation is awesome, I highly recommend. I used the ez cloner 16 that I purchased from magic home gardens (in canal Winchester). Yes I'm also going to call out all the local businesses and shops that helped me along the way because I feel that's more important than the wacky shit I'm trying.

Ok, so I have 16 clones going in an ez cloner using clonex solution. I was thoroughly impressed, I just turned it on, walked away and 10 days later, I have ready to root clones. I then rooted 50% of clones in roots organics original and 50% in tilth sprouts soil. I want to see which soil performs better for new growth. I then ran for exactly 1 weeks in veg lighting in the soils to establish root structure.

Initial findings : So in roots organics they grew a little more aggressively, but in tilth they stayed compact but with healthier leaves and color. I will take health over size, but you will see later how that didn't not matter.

I then planted 10 of the clones into a single round 27" diameter fabric pot. I wanted to ensure I stayed under the legal limit so I gave 5 clones away and accidentally broke one because I'm a big oaf.  I used AC infinity nursery bags as they claim you can leave in the bag to eliminate transplant shock.

I'll document more as I grow, but here is what I see so far. In tilth bloom soil the clones are fucking thriving awesomely. They had signs of mag deficiency when first put into the veg stage, but I did use some foop foliar mist(I think I picked up free at one of the farmers market) but other than that just water and tilth bloom soil.

The plants exploded when I flipped to flower light cycle. I will get an exact measurement but they more than tripled in size I feel during the stretch. I also have been cutting all lower growth continuously as I really want to have each plant be close to a single bud only. Some will have more, but want to try and get to the stock image I have as the first image in the photo gallery. Tilth bloom is so far living up to the expectations even though I think I slightly worried Josh from tilth when I told him what I was planning to do. He recommended a larger planter, I ignore rational thought sometimes. However, I know I could accomplish this with roots organics and their line of nutes. But for the increase cost of tilth, will it handle this grow without added nutrients. That's what I want to see. Even if I end up adding nutes later, it is still a viable test, in my mind, between the two.

I don't know if the plant roots are truly growing wildly outside of the AC nursery bags but with the growth in these plants I can only assume that's the case. Final examination will be at harvest when I pull the plants.

I will add pictures here in a bit

Goals of the experiment

  1. Do a mini SOG in a bed environment
  2. Test out tilth bloom soil with no nutrients
  3. Clones going from root to fruit method
  4. See if I can get a pretty picture like the stock photo I have.
  5. Ensure I have have fat nugs of the spice cake S1
  6. Determine if this is a viable option going forward for yield
  7. Test ac infinity nursery bags and transplanting in the bags
  8. Just have some fun!

Hello!

Man I love everything about your thread!

I love everything Ohio about it, from Larry from OCC, Tilth soil, and to buying a cloner from a local grow shop (LGS)!

Very happy to hear you are having fun and seeing success!

Keep this rolling, everything is looking very healthy!

What nutrient lineup are you planning on using when it comes time?

Also I wanted to give a BIG update - FINALLY we can upload pictures to our posts now!!

Took FOREVER to figure it out, I needed a secondary plugin for some reason.

But now the upload feature is included in the "Insert/Edit Image" button

Please let me know if you have any issues.

I just started a new grow myself and going to finally start a grow journal too.

I was planning on just using my normal roots organics terp tea bloom and recharge when the time comes. My next grow I want to try out Meigs line start to finish. However, just because I like testing stuff I may try Meigs Terpene Queen on this grow depending on how the outdoor grow finishes. If the outdoor mother finishes without any issues I was thinking of using the Terpene Queen on this one. That would give me a like for like comparison on effects of Terpene Queen vs not. Can check visually as well as with the t-check to see if there is a noticeable difference.

I love running side by sides.

I also love Recharge, it's such a great booster to use at any point.

Meigs is great and we love to support Ohio based cannabis companies.  Julie has been pushing Meigs for over a decade now and I have never heard a single complaint.

I would definitely run Terpene Queen, there's nothing better than stinky cannabis!

On week 5 of an estimated 10-14 week flower(per breeder). Taller than what I was hoping, but honestly that's my fault for picking the leggy sativa dominant pheno mother instead of the bushier one. Either way it's rolling along and thinking she will fill out nicely.  It will also be nice to do a yield comparison of these small plants vs a single larger one.  The other full plant of this strain is finishing up outside and bulking up nicely in week 9.

Everything is looking really good!

That's the only downside to Sativa's is that leggy height they have

You should run a 2 layer SCROG - first layer to bend the plant out, 2nd layer to stabilize the buds

It would utilize all of that extra space in the tent and give you better penetration to the lower sites

Just a quick update, will be posting full run down of this experiment as well as the side by sides of a couple of different products. Overall I can say this surprised me as I didn't expect it to go as well as it did. She gets prettier every day tho.

Those are great pics!

She looks just about ready to harvest too!

I'm looking forward to the full breakdown.

I've got some updated pics for my DWC I'm going to post today too.

Spread the love
